Our commitment in one sentence

We explain how mosquitoes and yard pests actually work, source our claims to recognized public authorities, and never invent a statistic, a study, a credential, or a review.

Where our information comes from

Pest biology and pesticide rules are documented by public agencies and research universities, so those are our primary sources:

• The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency: pesticide product labels, registration status, and the EPA's published mosquito control guidance. The label is the controlling legal document for any product, and we treat it that way.
• University extension entomology programs, whose fact sheets on mosquito biology, source reduction, and yard treatments are written by working entomologists.
• The American Mosquito Control Association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, for mosquito biology, behavior, and public health context.
• State pesticide regulators, for how applicator licensing and product use rules work in practice.

Where an article states a specific fact that depends on an outside source, we link the source so you can read it yourself. If we cannot verify a claim against a source we trust, we do not publish it.

How we handle facts that vary by region

Mosquito season length, dominant species, and treatment windows genuinely differ by region and by year. Rather than print one number as if it were universal, we frame regional facts as typical ranges and point you to your local university extension or health department for the local answer. The same goes for product questions: the label on the specific product, not our summary of it, is always the final word.

Who writes and reviews our content

Articles are researched, written, and edited by the Duskproof Editorial Team and carry that team byline with a published or updated date. We are deliberate about what we are not: we are not entomologists, physicians, or public health officials, and we do not publish under invented expert names or fabricated credentials. Where a question needs a professional, such as a medical concern about bites or a wildlife issue, we say so and point to the right kind of help.

How we keep content current

Each article shows when it was published and, when applicable, when it was last updated. We revisit content on a rolling basis and when a source we rely on changes, such as an EPA registration decision or an updated extension recommendation. A date on a page tells you when we last reviewed it, not that nothing has changed since; for anything safety-critical, read the current product label.

Corrections and feedback
